Obituary

Philip J. Schworer, 67 years of age, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14 with his loving family by his side. Phil was the dedicated husband of Lynn Schworer (née Dietz).
In a legal career that spanned more than 30 years, Phil focused on environmental law and shared his love for legal theory, science, and learning with many mentees and budding lawyers with whom he would freely share his time and wisdom. To his clients and colleagues, Phil was a talented lawyer committed to justice and decency who would work creatively and patiently in pursuit of a positive outcome.
He was also a passionate volunteer for many organizations across the region, including the Redwood Foundation, Northern Kentucky United Way, Cincinnati Arts Association, and the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Bar Associations. An enthusiastic networker, he loved to bring people together and was always willing to go above and beyond in support of the organizations he cared about.
Phil will be remembered for many things, including his unique sense of humor, love of ballroom dance, and affinity for swimming. Most importantly, he will live on in the way he showed his care by always being available to help his family, friends, colleagues, and community to meet their challenges head on. To his siblings, Phil was a gentle confidant and a source of trusted wisdom. To his three sons, Dad was the archetype of a good man, the prime example of how hard work pays off, a hero, and someone who would do anything to ensure their success and happiness. To Lynn, Phil was her high school sweetheart and lifelong love story, an attentive caregiver in sickness and in health, a best friend, a devoted husband, and a never ending source of love.
To all that had the privilege of knowing him, Phil was a great, kind, gentle, and smart man who positively affected each of us in different ways and will be deeply missed. We will all carry him forward in our hearts and in his many “Phil-isms,” including “always cook with cleanup in mind,” “don’t poke the tiger,” or “trust but verify.” Repeating a “Phil-ism” is a small way those who loved him will keep his memory alive.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; their three sons: Andy (Jen), Alex (Allison), and Adam; and three granddaughters: Hannah, Suzannah, and Giannah. He is the dear brother of Mary (Frank) Garamy, Tony (Andrea) Schworer, Michael (Wendy) Schworer, Angie (Rich) Schworer, and Marc (Amy) Schworer; son-in-law of Dorothy Dietz; brother-in-law to Richard (Jan) Dietz, David (Teresa) Dietz, Janice (Ron) Dietz, Dan (Moira) Dietz, Ken (Mary) Dietz; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs. Catholic Blessing will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Mother of God Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Redwood Foundation or St. Elizabeth Foundation Cancer Care Fund.
