Obituary

Michael Patrick McHargue, Sr. age 75, passed away suddenly on June 6, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence, Kentucky. Mike was born in Covington, Kentucky on October 26, 1945 to the late Christopher and Mary Catherine (Kibard) McHargue. After many years of service as a lineman for Cincinnati Bell, Mike retired. Never idle, he took up work at Kenton County Golf Course. Mike was a proud Navy Vietnam veteran and a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He received the Navy commendation with combat “V” for heroism while aboard a patrol craft. Never content to rest on his own laurels as a sailor, Mike worked tirelessly as an ardent advocate of veterans. A true patriot, he took it upon himself to assist other legionnaires in obtaining benefits and assistance from the Veteran’s Administration. Mike greatly enjoyed listening to the Cincinnati Reds; and spent many Saturday afternoons watching college football with his family and friends—especially Notre Dame and UK. Above all, Mike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his great-granddaughter Anna Pickett; and his loving wife Linda (Luttman) McHargue. Surviving to carry on his legacy are sons; Michael Patrick McHargue, Jr. (Elizabeth), Scotty Allen McHargue, Christopher J. McHargue (Angie); sister Peggy Fuller; grandchildren Katie Pickett, Kellie McHargue, Ryan McHargue, Maegan McDade, and Trenton Chenetz along with six great-grandchildren and many close relatives and friends. A visitation will be held for Mike on Saturday June 12, 2021 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051 from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. Immediately following visitation, a funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Mike will then be laid to rest alongside Linda with full military honors at Mother of God Cemetery, 3125 Madison Avenue, Latonia, KY.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mike to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
