Growing up in Ft. Wright with his three older sisters, he went to St. Johns Grade School and Covington Catholic High School, making lifelong friends along the way. Having a dad in the railroad business, he learned the ropes, and made it his career before retiring from CSX Railroad after 41 years. He always spoke fondly of his time as a conductor, a self-proclaimed graduate of "Choo-Choo U", and kept in touch with many railroaders through his retirement, always willing to lend a hand. All four of his boys attended Bishop Brossart High School, and he continued supporting the school after their time there had ended. As the boys were growing up, it may have been Ponderosa as a family, vacations to Gatlinburg, Major and Minor League ballparks around the U.S. and even Canada, or trips to the beach. Family came first. The '79 Volkswgon Super Beetle became a family project and toy, letting him take the grandkids on joy rides with the top down around the neighborhood. He loved gardening and yard work. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed the simple drive to visit Amish Country or pick up pastries, never forgetting special treats for the grandkids. While he may have taken pleasure from his little cigars, his family brought him more joy than anything else. John welcomed people into his family like they were his own, his family and friends were the most important part of his life. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4011 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Kentucky with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 pm.
