Obituary

Alice Mae Werbrich (nee James) was born December 4, 1924 and passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the age of 96. Her husband of 72 years, Stanley Werbrich, preceded her in death in 2015. Alice was the loving mother of Greg Werbrich, Paula Schanding, Jo Ann Werbrich, Susan Gerwe as well as her two children that preceded her in death, Denny Werbrich & Gary Werbrich. Alice was the adoring grandmother (Grams) of 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Alice instilled in her children the belief that they should be their own person, be accepting of all and know that each of them had limitless opportunities to be successful. She was proud of her children, their spouses/partners and all the times they gathered to laugh and enjoy family. A woman far ahead of her time, Alice worked in the early 1940’s while her husband, Stan was fighting in World War II. Her fierce independence was one of Alice’s strongest traits and it helped her to shape the dynamics of her family. Alice worked as an administrative assistant for 16 years at the St. Xavier Church Office. It was well known what a great cook she was and following her retirement from her office position she was asked to take over as cook for the clergy. A true renaissance woman, in the early 90’s Alice answered the call to volunteer with AVOC after losing her son Gary to AIDS. Prevention and help for those suffering from the illness became her passion. Alice spent her life in Northern Kentucky working and raising her family. Later in life her love of travel took her across the country and abroad. In her final years Alice moved to the Springhill Village Community where she made many wonderful friends. She passed the time by coloring beautiful pictures. The family is most grateful for the care provided by her beloved daughter-in-law, Linda and our dear family friend, Rita Beer. Services will be private as well as the burial at Mother of God Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in honor of Alice to The Point Arc of Northern Kentucky, 104 W Pike Street, Covington KY 41011. Arrangements are handled by Middendorf Funeral Home in Ft. Wright. Online condolences at www.middendorf-funeralhome.com
