Katherine Ann Francis Meyer
A Celebration of Life for Katherine Ann Francis Meyer will be held on Monday March 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, 825 Washington Ave, Newport, KY 41071. Reception will be at the parish gym immediately following the Mass.
Katherine was born on March 29, 1951 in Covington, KY. She died after a short illness on February 3, 2023.
Katherine was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Charles and Margie (Margaret) (Nieman) Meyer and kinfolk Rev. Louis H Dickmann.
Katherine is survived by her brother, Tom Meyer (Becki), her sister, Margie Black (Kevin), her beloved nieces and nephews-Chris Ginter (Stephanie) and their daughter Abigail, Amy (Matt) Simmons and Claire (Nick) Kelly, kinfolk Ann Baumbach and Katherine's wealth of treasured friends.
Katherine held a BA in English from Thomas More University, Master's Degree in Art Therapy from University of Louisville and a Master's Degree in Social Work from University of Kentucky.
In a character revealing move, Katherine chose Francis as her confirmation name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi thus aligning her young self with his life principles of respect and equality for all beings.
Katherine described herself as a writer, lifetime journal keeper, artist, educator and facilitator building community. She worked and volunteered in so many capacities. She was a loyal, non-judgmental friend to countless individuals and groups across the globe. Katherine's infectious cackling laughter will be sorely missed by every one of us.
Although an avid world traveler, Katherine never wanted to live anywhere else other than Kentucky. Proud of being born in Covington, Katherine loved her native Kentucky-from its hills and rivers, flora and fauna to its rich idiosyncratic histories, cities and people.
Katherine explored every known art medium and even made up a few of her own with varying degrees of success-from culinary, concrete, paper, paint, yarn, pottery, gardening to name a few.
Included in her expansive curriculum vitae with accolades galore are: Selling lumpy pottery and knitted clothing at craft fairs, Letter Carrier for USPS, The Boys/Girls Club, Covington Protestant Children's Home, the Mercantile and Maly Libraries, Master Gardiner, Named one of the Cincinnati Enquirer's Outstanding Northern Kentucky Women of the Year 1995, Soul Collage Facilitator, Docent at The Cincinnati Art Museum, Usher at The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Feminist Leadership Academy and The Martin Luther King Chorale. In 2008, Katherine retired from Northern Kentucky University after 22 years. During her time at NKU, Katherine worked in the Counseling program, as Coordinator of the Women's Center and as Director of Weekend and Evening Student Services championing diversity and inclusion.
Throughout her life, Katherine actively supported individuals and causes near and dear to her heart such as Women Helping Women and Women Writing for a Change-a non-profit organization- with particular interest in Young Women's programming. https://www.womenwriting.org/home/about.html
Any donations to Women Writing for a Change in Katherine Meyer's name will be earmarked for their Young Women's Programing.
